The PTA and social networking website, Facebook are coming together to help educate people about internet safety and security through various tools and resources for parents, teachers and even kids. They will tackle issues like cyber bullying, basic internet security and good online citizenship.Since it's just the beginning for the partnership, more details cannot be divulged.

However, a spokesman for Facebook, Barry Schnitt stressed on the point that this is not just about spreading awareness and educating kids about Facebook , it's also about educating people about being online. He stated that this should be done as soon as possible in order to get responsible behavior from people. Both Facebook and PTA will promote this through various means and appeal to parent-teacher groups everywhere.Children need to be educated and taught about what lurks behind the obvious on the web, especially now, when the internet has become a necessity for many and a craze everywhere.

A child advocate, Parry Aftab expressed an interesting opinion, stating that parents shouldn't feel fear while introducing their kids to the wonders of technology but on the contrary, use it to their advantage and improve communication. In a world where technology rules and it is survival of the fittest, it's important that kids are kept updated with what happens around them so that they can walk side by side with the changing times and are able to keep pace.
