With cold weather, comes cold weather problems. One of those problems is water main breaks. No running water, or water everywhere, typically means SCHOOL CANCELLATION! Imagine Academy of Cultural Arts in St. Louis, MO faced such an incident this past week. On Monday morning, just hours prior to the start of class, a water main broke in the top floor of the facility. The burst pipe flooded classrooms, hallways and the cafeteria as water cascaded from floor to floor. Because they have SchoolReach in their communications tool belt, they were able to reach parents before they brought their children to school.
Regional Director Diane Gillaspie had this to say, "SchoolReach was a lifesaver when we realized only two hours before our academic day began that we were going to have to close school due to a water main break. We were able to contact all parents before many of our students were even on their bus routes allowing parents to keep their students at home. This was a huge help as our parents were able to make other arrangements prior to the day starting. For those few students who did get on the bus, parents were informed that we needed them to come and pick up their child and they did so within a short time of the building opening. We kept our parents informed on the decisions that were being made as we learned how extensive the damage was and how it was going to affect school for the next day."
For the next two days, staff continued to work furiously to make sure that they had everything including the inside of walls cleaned so that there were no potential health issues to students. Thankfully things are back to normal now. Teachers are teaching and students are learning. Throughout it all parents were happy to know what was going on and administrators were happy to have SchoolReach to make letting them know as easy as possible.
